Sweet Darkness
Sweet Darkness
The holiday season is over. I looked upon it as a time of Gratitude, Community, and Change: Gratitude through gathering during Thanksgiving; Community through the religious and secular celebrations in December; Change by marking the passage of time in the New Year.
With all that 2020 has brought, the season was different. While traditions were altered this year, they were still meaningful and special. Instead of in-person celebrations, we held loved ones in our hearts and spirit from afar. However you celebrated, I send my love to you and your loved ones.
These three poems sustained me through the holidays. They each talked about turning inward and listening.
“Sweet Darkness” invited me into the solace of the darkness. “Lines for Winter” asked me to tune into the sound of my bones, which to me meant listening to my internal rhythm. “The Journey” encouraged me to trust my inner voice. Each talked about tapping into loving myself and being okay in the darkness of the winter.
I know I have found comfort and solace in understanding that the energy of Winter is a time to accept the darkness of the year, be still in it, listen inwardly, and use that time to create as well as explore. As I await the slow return of the light, I know I will be okay.
