I’m Not Here to Take Your Photo

What stops you from practicing? Sit for a moment and consider the question.

  • Did you have a bad experience before?

  • Do you think you’re not flexible?

  • Do you think you make funny faces when you practice?

  • Do you think you look awful when you practice?

  • Do you think the room will be full of people who are better than you?

Please come exactly as you are. I will not judge you base on your ability, body, race, gender expression, or sexual orientation. I will not judge you on your clothing or yoga mat. I am here to provide a safe environment. I am here to share with you what I have learned in almost a decade of teaching. I accept you as you are, right now, at this moment.

When I began my practice, I felt intimidated by yoga. I sweat a lot. Names and sequences confused me.  I was often the only guy in the room. I was not flexible. I still have limitations in my own practice!

But I fell in love with yoga for a completely different reason than flexibility. I fell in love with yoga because it made my mind feel better, more flexible. My face may have been contorted and my hands not quite on the floor, but inside I was beginning to see myself in a new way. I could see possibilities, could step outside my office for an hour at lunch, and feel better. I could skip the traffic on my commute home and feel better.

Come to yoga and be yourself. Be sweaty. Make contorted faces. Be open to what shows up for you. Be confident that I created this space for you to explore your body, mind, and spirit.  Be courageous. And don’t worry, I don’t take photos or videos of my class for social media posts. You are free to be you. As Cat Stevens once sang “if you want to sing out, sing out, and if you want to be free, be free...”

I’d love to hear more about your experiences — keep in touch.
